Next Fest is over. Next up: the Winter Sale and February demos

October's Steam Next Fest ended on 26 October (Pacific time). Valve's calendar lists the Steam Winter Sale for 17 December 2026 – 4 January 2027, and the next Next Fest for 22 February – 1 March 2027. Start times are not yet listed, so check the announcement closer to the date. Wishlisting a demo you liked makes it easier to find again in the sale.

Factorio 2.1 is now stable, and space logistics change with it

Wube Software has moved 2.1 from experimental to stable. The large quality-of-life update adds mixed-cargo rockets, platform-to-platform transfers and separate circuit inputs and outputs, and Space Age can now be played without Quality. An existing mid-game save may behave differently.

Deep Rock Galactic: the Halloween event runs until 5 November

Hoxxes Halloween 2026 is live and ends on 5 November at 13:00 CET. It adds a new hat assignment, and the Last Year's Horrors assignment unlocks every earlier Halloween hat, but only during the event.

It Takes Two adds cross-play, so your partner can be on another platform

Hazelight says online cross-play now works between PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Nintendo Switch 2, starting 15 October. Update to the latest version first. For a game that needs two players, you no longer need to own the same platform as your partner. The original Switch is not listed.

RimWorld 1.7 moves to an in-house engine, starting in beta

Ludeon Studios announced update 1.7, moving RimWorld from Unity to its own Waylith Engine. The studio says the game looks and plays the same, with 2–4x better performance in its tests. It is available now on the Steam "unstable" beta, while the default branch stays on 1.6. Back up an important save before opting into a beta.
